Ponta Malongane

7km from d’Ouro Malongane is part of the Southern Mozambique coastline

Ponta Malongane is very lucky to have a myriad of both hard and soft corals as well as to be home to a vast number of both reef and game fish, “tame” Potato Bass, Dolphins, Whales, Turtles, Rays, Hammerheads and even Zambezi sharks!

Due to a civil war in Mozambique, their coral reefs have remained largely untouched for almost two decades. In this time the already astounding reefs have further flourished and are some of the most memorable scuba diving areas in the whole of Southern Africa.

One of the most popular activities here are fishing and charters can be arranged or you can bring your own boat and equipment, it is also possible to fish straight off the point and the beach of Malongane. Malongane is also known as a spear-fishermans paradise.

NOTE: NO BOTTOM FISHING IS ALLOWED.
By law a fishing license is required in Mozambique –  ensure that you have all necessary paperwork in order before launching.
You would also need a license when targeting Billfish (Atlantic Blue-Marlin or Indo-Pacific Sailfish) specifically.

In winter the whales (Humpback and Southern Right) migrate to the South and pass by our shores. They are so close to shore that they can be seen from the beach.  Whale Sharks can be seen (if your lucky enough) throughout the year and of course the resident Bottle Nose Dolphins are frequent sightings no matter what the season is. From October to December are the nesting period for Leatherback and Loggerhead turtles. On Pinnacle reef there can be a vast numbers of Hammerhead Sharks and even Zambezi Sharks in the summer months they can swim in numbers of up to 120!

Diving is pretty good all year round, however the best months are March to June, when the water temperature is around 24c to 26c and attracts many fish to the reefs. The visibility is also better than in other months (around 20m+).
November to February is also worth diving in with the warmest water around 28c to 30c.
Even July to September when the water is cold, (but still 20c to 23c) the visibility is not as good as in the summer months, but there is still a lot of marine life on our reefs.
